Punjab Provincial Transport Authority exercises and discharges various functions under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965/MVR 1969 throughout the Punjab province.
Functions
- Coordinate/regulate activities of DRTAs
- Classification of inter-district/inter-provincial routes
- Grant/renewal of stage carriage (AC and Inter-Provincial) route permits
- License to operate rent-a-car services
- Route permits of goods vehicles (more than ten wheelers) and countersigning of goods vehicles routes issued by other provinces
- Permission to manufacturers/assemblers of all kind of three-wheeler rickshaws
- Impose fines against traffic violations
