Route Permit is necessary for every public service/goods vehicles according to provisions of Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 and Rules framed thereunder.  
   
What documents are required to apply for a Route Permit? Top

The application duly filled in by the applicant is made on the prescribed form accompanied by the following documents:-

  • Affidavit
  • Copy of CNIC
  • Proof ownership (Registration Book)
  • Proof of token tax paid
  • Proof of valid fitness certificate
  • Third-party risk insurance
  • Passenger guarantee (only for inter-city Stage Carriages permits)
  • Route permit fee fixed from time to time by the government
 
   
From where I can obtain a Route Permit? Top
If your vehicle is air conditioned you can obtain a route permit from Punjab Provisional Transport Authority, Lahore  otherwise you can obtain a Route permit from any District Regional Authority (DRTA) office within the region.

Why certificate of fitness is required for my vehicle? Top
Under Section 39 of Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1965 and Motor Vehicle Rule 1969, all Types of Public Service Vehicles (Heavy Duty, Light Duty, and Rickshaws) registered in Punjab and operating in Punjab should obtain a Fitness Certificate.  
   
From where I can obtain a certificate of fitness for my vehicle? Top
You can get a certificate of fitness for your vehicle from the VICS Station in your district. For more details please visit VICS website or call the VICS Customer Service Center UAN (42) 111-678-711 or visit the Secretary DRTA office in your district.  
   
What happens if my vehicle fails the inspection test? Top
Vehicles that fail will need to be repaired and returned for re-testing before a fitness certificate can be issued.

How to get an appointment for inspection of the vehicle at the VICS station? Top
Any vehicle owner can get an appointment by calling the VICS customer service center, UAN 042-111-678-711. Appointments can also be made through the VICS website.  
   
What documents are required for booking an inspection of the vehicle? Top
  • Proper documentation e.g original registration book/documents of the vehicle
  • CNIC of the driver, driving license of the driver
  • Inspection fee in cash
  • The vehicle should be unloaded with any passenger or cargo
  • The vehicle’s physical condition should be without any fluid leaks, loose and hanging parts, or wires
  • For the long vehicles, especially tandem or double-length carriers, the cargo trailer(s) should be detached
