Punjab Provincial Transport Authority (PPTA) exercises various functions under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965 and Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969 throughout the province.
Functions
The main functions of PPTA are stated below:
- Coordinate / regulate activities of DRTAs
- Classification of inter-district / inter-provincial routes
- Grant / renewal of stage carriage (AC and Inter-Provincial) route permits
- License to operate rent-a-car services
- Route permits of goods vehicles (more than ten wheelers) and countersigning of goods vehicles routes issued by other provinces
- Permission to manufacturers / assemblers of all kind of three-wheeler rickshaws
- Impose fines against traffic violations
